From 8 A.M. to 3 P.M., a campus-wide poll was held. Students and faculty voted on whether they approved of the procedure used in the Masterson selection, and whether they approved of the choice that the Trustees had made. Faculty members voted in their departments, while students could vote in the residential colleges or in the RMC.

See a copy of the poll below.

The poll given to students and faculty

After the polls closed, the votes were counted in the Student Association office in the Rice Memorial Center.

That evening, Dean Gordon and Warren Skaaren delivered the results to the Board of Trustees, who then conveyed the figures to Masterson.

The results of the poll were never released publicly, but it was widely assumed that they were overwhelmingly in opposition to both the Trustees' procedure in selecting Masterson and their choice of president.
