Student-faculty protest
After the teach-in at the gymnasium, over 1000 students and faculty marched together to Lovett Hall, where they waited for Masterson to speak after his press conference.
To distance their protest from the other student protests that were going on at the time, the students enforced a coat-and-tie dress code and adopted the slogan of "It Can't Happen Here." This slogan, which was printed on cards that protesters pinned to their lapels, referred both to their opposition to the Masterson appointment, and their refusal to let the protest devolve into violence.
