Masterson leaves Houston

Masterson met with student leaders for five hours on Saturday evening to discuss the situation and attempt to reach a compromise. During this meeting, the students tried to convince Masterson to meet with the student-faculty advisory committee, but he continuously refused and insisted that his appointment was a fait accompli. Though Masterson seemed to consider going before the committee, and promised to meet with the students again the next day, he then flew back to Chattanooga Sunday morning.

That morning, student leaders, along with several faculty members, gathered at Warren Skaaren's house to discuss their response to Masterson's actions.

As a result, the college presidents, Student Association officers, and student members of the advisory committee issued a statement declaring that he was an unacceptable choice for the presidency.
