Following the vote on Monday, students and faculty opposed to the Masterson appointment planned their next steps. At meetings of various groups throughout the day, students and faculty proposed several ideas for how their protest could maintain its momentum. While some people believed Masterson would soon resign or the Board of Trustees would revoke the offer, others were convinced that the protest would last much longer. They worried that a lack of progress would lead either to apathy or to violence.

At the same time, students continued monitoring local press coverage of the controversy. They collected headlines about the crisis and developed a plan for addressing media bias.

News of Masterson's resignation broke early that evening, putting an end to the crisis.
