Myra Chanel Ical

Myra Chanel Ical was a 51-year-old trans woman that was found on January 25, 2010 in a vacant lot in Montrose. Her body was found half-naked and evidence showed that Myra was murdered but died fighting her attacker(s), as there were signs of defensive struggle on her body. [10] Kristopher Banks, the President of the GLBT Political Caucas at the time said, “We hope her killer is brought to justice, but the record is not good. Myra now makes the seventh transgender person in Houston murdered in the last decade for which there is currently no one in custody.” Myra’s murder is still unsolved. The tragedy of Myra Ical’s murder was overshadowed by the reporting of her story by the media. For example, the Houston Chronicle reported that Ruben Dario Ical “also went by the name of Myra” and that “he had numerous bruises and defensive wounds, as if he has struggled against his attacker.” [8] The Houston media showcased its ignorance regarding Myra’s gender identity.
