The NAMES Project has hosted displays in Houston 4 times during the last century, in 1988, 1990, 1995, and 1999.  
 
In the spring of 1988, The NAMES Project started their first national tour displaying the Quilt. On May 7 and 8 of 1988, the Quilt displayed in Houston in George R. Brown Convention Center.  
 
On October 6th, 1990, another AIDS Quilt exhibition took place in George R. Brown Convention Center and organized by Houston chapter of the NAMES Project. The display in Houston was going on simultaneously with displays in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Paula Harris, the Logistic Coordinator, and David Lemos, the executive director of NAMES Project, said that each city displayed 1920 panels.

Houston NAMES Project: Remember Their Names

From March 30 to April 2, 1995, another AIDS Quilt display took place in George R. Brown Convention Center. The theme of the display was “Loving Memories that Educates and Inspire”. 
 
On November 30 - December 5, 1999, the NAMES Project hosted a series of events to promote AIDS awareness. Lee P. Brown, the mayor of the City of Houston at that time, proclaimed the week as the AIDS Awareness Week in Houston.
