Display of AIDS Memorial Quilt in George R. Brown Convention Center

The NAMES Project Houston held an AIDS Memorial Quilt display at George R. Brown Convention Center from March 30 - April 2, 1995. The theme of the display was “Loving Memories that Educate and Inspire”. The theme, as the co-chairs of NAMES Foundation, David Jackson and Kerwin Diggs said, “encourages us to remember those loved ones we have lost to AIDS and use those memories to educate our youth and the public about HIV/AIDS prevention and care”.

The Display had already raised $1,484,147 of funds for direct services for people with AIDS before this display in Houston.  More than 5 million people visited the Quilt before. Cleve Jones, the founder of the NAMES Project Foundation gave a speech and volunteers read the names on the quilt during the opening ceremony.

Below is an excerpt of documents of the 1995 NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt display, including a letter from the chairs of NAMES Project Foundation, the Houston host committee, time schedule of ceremonies, and some Quilt facts.
