Dear Anne

I asked Mr. Weems to send your father a cablegram on our arrival here. Japan is proving to be the finest kind of culmination to our journey. We are planning to sail from Yokohama the 7th of April on a Pacific Mail Steamer (name I don't know yet) a large boat, touching at Honolulu and making the passage to San Francisco in about 16 days. We are hoping to get Mary to Mayfield in time to help celebrate the Major's birthday. Unfortunately it will be necessary for me to go straight to Houston. It might be well for you to have a dressmaker save some of her time in May for Mary since she will have had no opportunity to get any of her summer sewing done. We had hoped to look up some of the missionaries here but I fear that is going to be impossible.
Love to all - EOL.
