Mrs. Mary Hale Lovett traveled with her husband, Edgar Odell Lovett, and Rice Institute's secretary, Carrington Weems, on a trip around the world. The Lovett's children stayed with Mrs. Lovett's parents in Kentucky while Dr. and Mrs. Lovett took careful note of the best aspects of the world's colleges and universities.

Mrs. Lovett's travel diary provides a detailed window into the daily schedule of the world tour. No such travel diary by Dr. Lovett is known to exist.

A sprig of heather gathered in Scotland by Mrs. Lovett, presumably for Dr. Lovett's lapel.
