'We Love Houston' Sign

Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States and as such it has a very diverse population. In 2010, Houston’s population totaled 2,100,263 people. [3] Of those 2.1 million people, 537,901 identified as White, 485,956 identified as black or African American, 730, 865 identified as Hispanic or Latino, 106,620 identified as Asian and 26,444 identified as Other. [11]

While this diverse population is what makes Houston special, it also makes Houston a place where differences may not always be acknowledged and accepted, due to differing backgrounds, education and upbringings. These differences are evident in the various communities that have popped up throughout Houston. Sadly, people have also been targeted because of certain differences. It is important to recognize that while Houston is a very welcoming, diverse city, there have also been instances of hate directed towards various groups of people. We believe that Montrose is an example for a community that has united under their differences to fight for a common goal and make Houston a more welcoming place of everyone.
