Interview - Luzviminda Pendon

Ms. Lucy, short for Luzviminda, Pendon was born in Orani, Bataan in the Philippines in 1942. She immigrated to the United States in 1964 to work as a nurse at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Ms. Pendon was the Associate Director of Nursing at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Freeport, where she worked for 27 years before retiring in 2000. During her time at the Brazosport Memorial Hospital, Ms. Pendon became involved in many community service projects, namely the Brazosport Rotary Club which she continues with today. While in Houston, she met her husband Greg, short for Gregorio, Pendon, who later worked at Dow Chemical as an engineer. The couple have four children and eight grandchildren. This interview covers Ms. Pendon’s unconventional education while in Manila, up through her time spent in college and graduate school for nursing.

The interview then transitions into her career and immigration to the United States, including the Pendon’s long battle to gain US citizenship. The interview then wraps up with stories and advice for her children and grandchildren.
