Interview - Xuan-Hui Ng

Xuan-Hui Ng was born in 1977 in Singapore as a second-generation Chinese Singaporean. She came to the US to pursue her undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a BSc in Economics. Upon graduating, she got her first job as a research assistant for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During this time, she lost her mother and this had a tremendous impact on her, including her later works in creativity, such as her “Remembrance” series that was started in 2014. Her connection with Houston comes through her artist’s career as an artist represented by Foto Relevance Gallery, Houston since June 2021; as well as FotoFest, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic but pending restart, when Xuan will visit Houston in person. Her first career upon graduation was in investment banking, in particular, Mergers & Acquisitions, with her first job with the IMF (International Monetary Fund) at Washington D.C., followed by bulge bracket investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Citigroup (now Citi). Xuan is a sailor, influenced by her father who is an athlete and sailor. She was awarded the Sports Girl of the Year award by the Singapore Sports Council in three consecutive years. She’s multilingual in English, Japanese, Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese. Xuan currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
